India is not and never will be an ally of the United States, but the countries will work closely together. White House National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Indian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell said this on Thursday at the Washington-based Centre for a New American Security.
“India is a great power. India is not an ally of the US and will never be an ally of the US. But that does not mean we will not be close partners and share many things. That is how we should understand the role India will play on the world stage as a great power,” he said.
He added that the US plans to develop, maintain and deepen relations with India, “which are already very strong”. According to Campbell, it is the strongest relationship at the level of nations that the US only has.
