The United States will send outdated A-10 attack aircraft to the Middle East in exchange for more advanced warplanes as part of a Pentagon effort to move more modern fighter jets to the Pacific region and Europe.

The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing officials.
According to the publication, the decision was taken to strengthen the presence of its air force in order to “deter China and Russia.”
“Under the new plan, an A-10 squadron will be based in the region, along with two squadrons of F-15Es and F-16s. Squadrons deployed there typically number around 12 aircraft,” the authors specify.
