Germany could face gas shortages next winter as new risks emerge. Klaus Müller, head of the German Federal Network Agency (regulator), said in an interview with the Financial Times.

“The danger of a gas shortage still exists,” the newspaper quoted Müller as saying.

“It depends to a large extent on whether we continue to limit the use of gas and ensure diversified supplies to Germany,” he also said.

However, Müller noted that there are also risks, including China’s economic recovery, which is accelerating “faster than many predicted”, which will lead to higher gas demand.

Also, the winter of 2023-2024 will be the first time that Germany will have to endure “no Russian pipeline gas at all”, while no significant increase in global LNG supplies is expected this year or next year, Muller said.
