European countries must not further interfere in the armed conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said at a 2022 press conference in Budapest.

“Europe is already immersed in the conflict [in Ukraine],” the prime minister said. – Whoever is training soldiers and supplying weapons has plunged headlong into hostilities. We hope that Europe will not be up to its neck in this war. And Hungary will not get involved in it. However, we are providing and will continue to provide humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine.”

“The existence of an independent and sovereign Ukraine is in Hungary’s interests, but it is not in our interests to separate the Russian economy from Europe,” Orban clarified.

Hungarian authorities have previously repeatedly called for peace talks to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Budapest does not provide Kiev with military aid, but supports refugees from Ukraine.
