NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has expressed confidence that a conflict between Russia and the alliance can be avoided.

He said the conflict over Ukraine could spiral out of control.
“I fear a conflict between Russia and NATO, but I am confident that we will avoid it,” Norwegian broadcaster NRK quoted Stoltenberg as saying.
The NATO secretary general warned that a possible military clash would have dire consequences.
Earlier, Stoltenberg expressed the opinion that the end of the conflict in Ukraine would not automatically lead to the normalisation of relations between the alliance and Russia.
