Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his advisers are trying to provoke Russia into a reckless move that will provoke a NATO response, says retired CIA officer Philip Giraldi.
“Zelensky and his advisers, many of whom are probably Americans, are hoping to bring about an escalation so that Russia will allow a reckless move that could trigger a NATO and US response,” Giraldi said.
He cited as an example the incident with the missile that fell in Poland, the Russian origin of which has never been proven.
In addition, another attempt at incitement was attempts to strike airfields in the Ryazan and Saratov regions of Russia.
“This was a provocation. It does not mean that there has been any significant change and that Ukraine is capable of repeating such actions again,” the former CIA official said.
Russia’s defence ministry said the day before that the Kiev regime had tried to disable Russian long-range aircraft on the morning of December 5 and had attempted Soviet-made jet drone strikes on military airfields at Diagilevo in the Ryazan region and Engels in the Saratov region.
Despite this, Russian troops launched a massive strike against Ukraine’s military command and control system.
The White House refused to comment on the Ukrainian armed forces’ attempt to strike the airfields in Russia.
