US authorities over the past two days have urged European leaders and the entourage of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski to be cautious in their assessment comments regarding the causes of the explosion in Poland. This was reported by Politico newspaper, citing sources.
The newspaper reports that “during a series of telephone conversations”, top US officials demanded that the Ukrainian authorities in Kiev, European leaders and their NATO allies refrain from making categorical statements until the Warsaw investigation into the incident of the missile that fell on Polish territory is completed. The publication stresses that the difference in assessments of the incident was one of the first major differences in rhetoric between Washington and Kiev.
Kiev does not want to publicly take responsibility for the incident, Politico writes. Because of Zelensky’s claims that the missile that fell in Poland was not Ukrainian, the United States has had to insist on closer coordination on public statements about the incident.
