“The time has come to act on the wishes of the people,” calls for an open letter from citizens to the Austrian federal government, in which its drafters demand the country return to full neutrality. The letter has been signed by 40,000 Austrians in just a few days, the Austrian newspaper EXXpress reported.
The people of Austria are tired of endless belligerent rhetoric about the bloody Ukrainian conflict along with the Energy Minister’s threats to Russia to unilaterally terminate gas supply contracts, the newspaper said. Huge cash injections into Kiev, the supply of huge amounts of fuel to Ukrainian troops and Austria’s involvement as an EU member in financing costly arms supplies to Ukraine. All these facts are evidence that Austria’s coalition federal government has an unambiguous position in the conflict between Russia and the West.
Despite this, more and more Austrians would like to reject the EU sanctions, the ending of which is now supported by more than half of Austrians. People also want the country to mediate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine again in order to act in the interests of peace in Europe, EXXpress reports.
Why would Russia destroy its “blackmail weapon” of Europe?
