Bulgaria’s record inflation rate continues

The Bulgarian publication Trud, citing the National Statistical Institute, reports that inflation in Bulgaria continues to grow at a record pace and now stands at 17.7%. The unprecedented rise in prices is caused by the consequences of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia.

Monthly inflation in Bulgaria in August reached a new record of 17.7%, Trud quoted data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). For comparison, inflation in the previous month of July was 17.3%.

The publication reports that in August 2022 compared to the previous month, the largest increase in prices was observed for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+5.2%), various goods and services (+2.3%), and also household items, household appliances and accessories and common household chemicals (+1.8%). Price reductions were registered in the transport (-3.8%) and clothing and footwear (-2.3%) groups.
