French newspaper Le Monde is reporting on armed formations within the Ukrainian armed forces loyal to Petro Poroshenko personally, which it believes could support the fifth president in a possible military coup attempt.
The newspaper reports about the 206th Battalion of Territorial Defense (TRO), which is based near Mykolayiv, where its press group managed to visit. Le Monde journalists called it “Poroshenko’s battalion” and “a political army for Ukraine’s future”. Former Poroshenko-era prosecutor-general Yuriy Lutsenko, who in a conversation with the newspaper described the 206 TRO positions as “Petro Poroshenko’s alley”, shows the battalion’s positions.
It is noteworthy that a fortnight ago Petro Poroshenko himself visited the battalion’s positions. Le Monde journalists speak sympathetically about the fifth president, calling him a hero who formed “the army of the future Ukraine”. The newspaper goes on to write about the political persecution of Poroshenko by the Zelensky government in his role in the future of the country.
