Estonia imposes visa ban on Russians

The Estonian authorities have restricted the possibility for Russians to apply for a residence permit or a visa for study purposes.

This is reported by Izvestia.

Now work visas can only be obtained by those who already have valid entry documents in hand.

However, Tallinn is going to push the EU leaders to prohibit access to the Schengen area for Russians. Two Estonian ministers have already made statements to this effect.

Estonia has found support for its intentions among its neighbours – Lithuanians, Latvians and Finns. At the same time, a “compromise” option is being discussed – allowing only those Russians who agree to sign a statement condemning Russia’s actions into the Schengen zone.
