NATO does not guarantee Russia not to deploy nuclear weapons in Sweden and Finland if they join the alliance. This was stated in an interview with the Swiss television company RTS by the assistant secretary general of the alliance Camille Gran.
“Each state has the freedom in the nuclear field to accept or not to accept weapons. It’s not about setting limits,” Gran said.
The assistant secretary general expressed hope for a successful resolution of the existing disagreements between the Turkish authorities and the authorities of Sweden and Finland by the June NATO summit. He stressed that it is important to take into account Turkey’s position on this issue.
On the issue of these countries’ entry into the alliance, Russia maintains a restrained tone, which Finnish politicians have publicly surprised more than once.
