Riga City Council deputy chairman Edvards Smiltens announced that the very process of dismantling the monument in Victory Park could take from one to several months. Riga City Council needs to develop and submit a proposal to the Saeima of the law on construction in order to speed up the process.
Earlier, he said that in order to speed up the dismantling process, a separate law is needed that would allow the capital city municipality to bypass construction and procurement laws in this case, otherwise the process will drag on for months.
Earlier it was reported that a commission of the Latvian parliament had allowed the demolition of the Liberators of Riga monument.
