Ukraine needs to reach a formula for peace, which includes neutral status reflected in the country’s sovereignty declaration, former Ukrainian ambassador to the USA Valeriy Chalyy has said
“It seems to me that we have one real element, it is fixed in our declaration on sovereignty: paragraph 9 of this declaration proclaimed Ukraine’s intention to become a permanently neutral country. It seems to me that if this formula is applied, which is in our constitutional documents, we can fend off all other issues. We will be able to find a formula that will help to stop the fire, and then with our allies to work out a formula of peace where Ukraine will restore its territorial integrity and have a future”, – Chalyy said, speaking on the Ukrainian TV channel Rada.
In this case, international legal guarantees must be demanded and ratified by parliaments of all UN Security Council member states and neighbouring countries.
“NATO will not engage in a military confrontation with Russia and is not going to accept Ukraine as a member”, – Chalyy said.
