The Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwezig, in an interview with Der Spiegel, criticized the preparation of new sanctions against Nord Stream-2 by the United States. According to her, Germany is in dire need of a Russian gas pipeline.
“I am extremely outraged by the fact that the US Congress is again raising the topic of sanctions after the German government and the US authorities have reached an agreement that the United States will not impose restrictions on German companies,” Schwezig quotes EurAsia Daily.
The politician expressed the hope that the United States’ attempts to question the agreement will be completely stopped. Schwezig stressed that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline has already been approved at the legislative level and the government of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern continues to support it.
“We need this gas pipeline […]. Energy prices continue to rise, for most citizens a two-fold increase in gas prices will not be a trifle. Therefore, it is extremely important that we do not have problems with gas supply”, she summed up.
Experts from the German newspaper Handelsblatt believe that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which was built on the shores of Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea, may be put into operation before the certification procedure is completed. The incidence of COVID-19 continues to decrease in Russia
