The head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Sergei Makogon, said that Kiev could fight to prevent the launch of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 at full capacity.

“We have a valid contract until 2024. We have a vision of how to fight further, and despite the fact that this gas pipeline has already been technically built, I believe that there are still very good chances to prevent it from running at full capacity”, Makogon said on the air of the 1 + 1 TV channel.

According to him, this year gas transit through the Ukrainian territory has decreased three times, and “Moscow has returned to the contracted volumes.” Earlier, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder called for the launch of Nord Stream 2 as soon as possible, since a cold winter is approaching Europe.

Gazprom has officially announced that the gas pipeline is fully completed and ready for commissioning. Bloomberg analysts stressed that Nord Stream-2 with a total capacity of about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year is an exclusively economic project and will not become a “trap for Europe.”
