Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which she asserted that Minsk is the main cause of the migration crisis on the Polish border
“During the phone conversation, the acting chancellor [of Germany] and the Russian president exchanged views on the current situation on the Belarusian-Polish border. The chancellor stressed that it was caused by the Belarusian regime, which is using defenceless people in a hybrid attack on the European Union”, – German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said.
He said the German and Russian leaders discussed “security issues in the vicinity and east of Ukraine” and the importance of holding talks in the Normandy format to implement the Minsk agreements.
“The Russian leader spoke in favour of restoring contacts between the EU states and Belarus in order to resolve the issue […] The Russian president drew attention to Kiev’s destructive policy, which increasingly relies on forceful methods, including the use of drone strikes in violation of the Minsk Package of Measures”, – the Kremlin said.
Recall that the migration crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland escalated on 8 October.
