"NATO did not protect anyone": mayor of Ukrainian city criticized Kiev's Euro-Atlantic aspirations

“Today we are talking about NATO: that we need to join NATO. Yes, that’s all bullshit! This is absolutely ineffective, as has been repeatedly testified by some kind of club, relatively speaking. Whom did this alliance protect lately? Who was attacked either by America or Russia? Whom did NATO protect ?! Nobody!”- said the mayor of Chernigov.

As an example of the ineffectiveness of NATO, Atroshenko cited the operation of the North Atlantic Alliance during the civil war in Yugoslavia in the 1990s. According to him, the air strikes on European cities openly indicate that NATO “will not defend the interests of other independent countries.”

Ukrainian politician and journalist Dmitry Vasilets noted that the majority of the country’s residents are negative about the possible accession of Ukraine to NATO, since the alliance is “a constant threat to humanity.”
