Ukraine intends to seek compensation from Germany for the launch of Nord Stream 2

Political analyst Anatoly Ivanov expressed confidence that the gas pipeline will be commissioned before the end of the year. This confirms the desire of European representatives to close the deal with Russian Gazprom as soon as possible. At the same time, European countries, in particular Germany, intend to ignore the opinion of the Ukrainian side regarding Russia’s Nord Stream 2. In his turn, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin called to “smash Germans” for their position on the part of the “Nord Stream 2”

“They should be taken by the gate and told: ‘Germans, now come here – this is your responsibility – and deal with energy efficiency, biomethane and hydrogen energy here'”, –  the Ukrainian politician said.

Anatoliy Ivanov noted that despite the initial friction between Ukraine and Europe regarding the operation of the Russian gas pipeline, at the moment the Ukrainian side is crossing all borders. The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that NSP2 is a commercial project, but Kiev continues to insist that the pipe was created for the sake of political pressure and undermining Ukraine’s energy security.

“I understand you can blame Russia for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which of course is also strange, but at least it is customary. But to say that some European country is obliged to pay compensation to Kiev, repair their gas transport system and set up the energy sector is already beyond reality”, – the political scientist said.

We shall remind you that certification of gas pipeline “Nord Stream – 2” may be completed in early 2022, it has been stated by Klaus Ernst, member of the Bundestag, the former head of the Committee on Economics and Energy.
