US sends ship to Black Sea for operations with NATO allies

“The Sixth Fleet flagship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20)… has begun its northern transit to the Black Sea to conduct operations there with our allies and NATO partners in the region”, – the official statement said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the event on the margins of the G20 summit. According to the minister, “the demonstration of the US Navy flag does not add to the stability of the situation in the world”.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said there had been an increase in provocations by NATO, whose troops regularly approach and sometimes violate Russia’s borders, especially within the Black and Baltic seas.
