Ukraine will not be able to influence certification of NSP2

Naftogaz’s possible participation in the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not be able to hinder the process, former Ukrainian ombudsman Valeriya Lugovska has said

Ukraine will not be able to influence certification of NSP2

As previously reported, Naftohaz Ukrayiny has applied for participation in the certification of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to the head of the company, Yuriy Vitrenko, Kiev will insist that the pipeline does not comply with European legislation.

“The point is that we went to the commission that will deal with certification in order to, like a Trojan horse, prevent this certification from there. The idea is understandable, but please tell me, how will it affect the citizens of Ukraine? How will we live?”, – Lugovska said on Ukraine 24.

The former ombudsman recalled that Ukraine is experiencing an enormous shortage of coal: some thermal power plants only have enough reserves for a couple of weeks. However, the Kiev authorities do not think about the problems the country’s residents will face.

“And all the other [certification participants] have the citizens of their countries behind their backs. And they understand that they will get cheaper gas thanks to Nord Stream-2. Consequently, there is development of economy, there is no danger whether the enterprises will stop and so on. Can Naftogaz convince them? I doubt it”, –  Lugovska concluded.
