Olaf Scholz, who will take over as German Chancellor, is discussing government formation with the Greens and the Free Democrats
German political analyst Alexander Rahr commented on the situation in his Telegram channel and shared his assumptions about the future leadership of the country.
He noted that they want to base foreign policy on the fight for a green economy and human rights. In addition, attention will be paid to the transatlantic course, although the US is no longer so favourable to it. The new authorities also want to extend the European Union and NATO to all the Balkan countries and strengthen the Eastern Partnership.
“The composition of the government will be very different from the previous one – a new, young generation of 40-60 year old politicians who grew up with the ideas of Western triumphalism of the end of the Cold War came to power”, – said Rahr.
He also drew attention to the future of relations between Russia and Germany. According to him, Scholz “is no stranger to the détente ideas of the Willy Brandt era” and therefore will be able to maintain normal ties with Moscow and cool down the Greens and the Democrats.Germany removes alleged Islamist sympathisers from Syria
