France will set a ceiling price for gas and electricity in the winter

French authorities have banned an increase in gas and electricity tariffs in the country until the end of winter, media reported.

France will set a ceiling price for gas and electricity in the winter

“We are setting up a tariff board. Specifically, gas prices will not exceed the October level throughout the winter. The French heating bills should have increased by 30%, but this will not happen”, French Prime Minister Jean Castex wrote on Twitter.

This will be possible due to the fact that in France the government controls the main energy companies and can influence tariffs, including by reducing taxes and fees, which occupy a significant part of the cost of energy resources.

This measure to curb the rise in prices is associated with the presidential elections scheduled for April. Therefore, the government of President Emmanuel Macron does not skimp on financial promises in various political areas and projects.
