Chinese Foreign Ministry urges Czech Republic to follow the market rules in the construction of a nuclear power plant

China, against the background of the situation with the exclusion of Russian and Chinese companies from the possibility of participating in the creation of a new block of the Czech nuclear power plant “Dukovany”, hopes that the Czech Republic will follow the rules of the market and create a non-discriminatory business environment, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said at a briefing on Tuesday.

“We hope that the Czech Republic will strictly adhere to the principles of fair competition and a market economy, as well as provide an open, fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for investment and normal operation of foreign companies in the Czech Republic,” the diplomat said.

Earlier, Czech TV reported that the country’s President Milos Zeman on Monday signed a law that excludes the participation of Russian and Chinese companies in the construction of a new power unit at the Dukovany nuclear power plant (in the south-east of the country). This law provides for the possible use in the construction of the unit, as well as in its subsequent operation, technologies only from those countries that have joined the international agreement on state orders of 1996, which do not include the Russian Federation and the PRC.
