Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnyk said that without a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will not be re-elected for a second term, it was reported
Bortnik said that for Putin the meeting with the Ukrainian president is meaningless, but for Zelensky himself it is extremely important, as it will be able to demonstrate his successes in the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass.
“Strategically for Zelensky a meeting with the Russian leader is important because without the normalization of relations with Russia Vladimir Putin will not be able to re-elect for a second term […] former President Petro Poroshenko unsuccessfully tried to get re-elected without establishing relations with Moscow”, – said the political analyst on the air of the TV channel “Our”.
He also stressed that Russia does not “control” Ukraine and cannot “promote” its candidate in the presidential election, but it has “key fuses” influencing the situation in the country in its hands.
An informed source told RIA Novosti that Kiev is studiously avoiding direct contacts with Moscow regarding a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. Notably, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba earlier publicly accused Russia of “avoiding this meeting”.“NATO is anxious”: Pushkov assessed the West’s growing distrust of the US
