The failure of the United States in Afghanistan created a gap for global terrorism

The United States and NATO have never been able to fulfill the task they set for themselves in Afghanistan. The counter-terrorist operation, which lasted 20 years, completely failed.

The failure of the United States in Afghanistan created a gap for global terrorism

Arthur Medetbekov, a security expert, ex-deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, said this in an interview with Xinhua.

“Yes, they managed to do something: to destroy the leader of Al-Qaeda* Osama bin Laden, to conduct large tactical military operations somewhere. But today the whole world recognizes that the US and NATO forces have not won a victory over terrorism in Afghanistan. However, huge sums of money were spent, tens of billions of dollars were spent only on rearmament of the Afghan army, not to mention other expenses”, he said.

At the same time, the expert stressed that no one thought about building a “new Afghanistan”. Meanwhile, the Taliban * and similar movements were active in ideological work and gathered supporters.

Medetbekov believes that the reason for the US’s global failures is that they approach the fight against terrorism with double standards. After the defeat in Afghanistan, it is not clear how the situation in the world will develop. Washington showed that it allowed the radical movement to build its own state.
