American authorities fear that at least 100 evacuated Afghans may be linked to radicals and pose a terrorist threat to the US
NBC television reported this on Friday, citing sources.
According to them, federal authorities are taking all precautions to prevent people with compromising information from entering the US. So, of the approximately 30,000 Afghan nationals evacuated to the US, about 10,000 have already been subjected to additional checks.
As a result of these inspections, 100 people have been flagged as potentially dangerous because of links to terrorist groups or the radical Taliban. Of those, two will be sent to unrecognised Kosovo to be screened again.
The United States ended both the evacuation of civilians from Kabul and its entire military mission in Afghanistan on 30 August. US President Joe Biden announced the decision to wind up the operation in that country, which began in October 2001 and became the longest overseas military campaign in American history, on 14 April. The Taliban supporters then ramped up their offensive and took complete control of Kabul without a fight on August 15.Pushkov says US faces economic catastrophe
