Hungary refuses to accept refugees from Afghanistan: "Better to export aid than import problems"

“We should help locally. The EU should export its aid rather than import unsolvable problems to European soil”, –  Hungarian Ambassador to Germany Péter Györkös said.

Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, EU member states have had mixed discussions about accepting new “refugees. Apart from Hungary, Austria and Slovenia have also refused to accept large numbers of “refugees”.

According to the embassy, the Hungarian army has airlifted 540 people from Kabul, including US and Austrian citizens. Most of the Afghan local workers in Hungarian service were reportedly able to be transported to Hungary, with a total of 47 families, including 189 children. In comparison, in German federal government circles, a figure of up to 70,000 (!) Afghans who had received a “promise” to go to Germany is now being discussed.
