Russian Foreign Minister says Russia and China condemn attempts to falsify history

“Dear colleagues, dear friends, 76 years ago the Second World War ended. The war, which became the largest tragedy in the history of mankind, which claimed tens of millions of lives. At the cost of incredible efforts and heroism of the people, the USSR won the Great Patriotic War, and then, loyal to the allied debt, entered the battle with militarist Japan, defeated the Kwantung Army and liberated northeast China from the Japanese occupiers”, Lavrov said in a video message on the occasion of joint commemorative events in the Chinese city of Dongning.

Lavrov noted that at the end of August 1945, the last battle of the Second World War in China ended, when the soldiers of the 25th Army of the 1st Far Eastern Front liquidated the centers of resistance of the Japanese invaders in Dongning.

“More than 1,500 Soviet soldiers and officers died in the battles for the Dongning Fortress. The peoples of the Soviet Union and China supported each other in harsh military conditions, fought shoulder to shoulder against fascism and militarism in the name of protecting peace and progress, defending human dignity and freedom”, – added the minister.

Lavrov also added that more than 80 military memorial sites of Soviet soldiers are carefully preserved by the Chinese authorities.Today, in the suburb of Dongning, on the site of the Dongning fortified area built by the Japanese invaders, there is a memorial, which was opened in 2005 in memory of the bloody battles.

“At the cost of enormous human losses, we together defeated the enemy and laid a solid foundation for the development of relations between our states. I am confident that the friendship and strong mutual support passed down from generation to generation will contribute to the further dynamic development of Russian-Chinese relations and the strengthening of international peace and stability,” – Lavrov emphasized.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that “Russia and China strongly condemn attempts to falsify the history of World War II, revise its results, heroize the Nazis, militarists and their accomplices, and denigrate the victors.”
