Media: Biden may stop construction of Nord Stream 2

According to the paper, whether the US will intervene again in the construction of the pipeline depends on the meeting between Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky, which will take place on 1 September.

“The meeting with Biden <…> will be the last chance to stop the construction of Nord Stream 2. If Zelensky manages to convince Biden, it will be an important victory for all of Europe – a victory that will protect it from catastrophic dependence on Russian gas”, – the article said.

At the same time, the paper stressed that if Kiev fails to persuade Washington to intervene, Russia will be the only winner in this situation.

The day before, on 29 August, former and current Ukrainian politicians asked Biden to stop the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. In their appeal they reminded the President that he had promised “to be tough on Russia”.
