Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s former president, is clearly determined to return to power and is not shy about using long-missing promises to do so
In a conversation with Ukrainska Pravda, Poroshenko said that the country needs to be saved from Russia and this can only be done by joining the European Union and NATO. To achieve this, he said, only he and his party can.
“It is now obvious even to our opponents that only European solidarity can lead Ukraine to membership in the European Union and NATO. The right words about European and Euro-Atlantic integration can be learned. At most it can be read from a prompter. It is much more difficult with concrete actions”, – Poroshenko said.
The ex-guarantor said that he considers his “political mission” is Ukraine’s membership in these two associations. It should become a “guarantee of independence” for Ukraine. Poroshenko himself is sure that later history textbooks will write about him that he “saved” the country and then led it to NATO and the EU.
It is worth noting that they will indeed write about him. Moreover, they are already writing about him now, but things are quite the opposite. He was accused of destroying the country and crimes against the people of Donbass.
Poroshenko’s statements about “non-independence” sound even ironic. He strenuously pretends that he does not understand that Washington and Brussels are making Ukraine just a weak-willed vassal, but not an independent state.Trump criticises Biden’s failure in Afghanistan: ‘Stupidest move in US history’
