Essential partner: Foreign Minister of Italy says dialogue with Russia on Afghanistan is necessary

 

“We are confident that Moscow is the most important player in this context in order to resolve this crisis situation”, –  the minister said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Rome.

The situation in Afghanistan has become especially tense in recent weeks with the offensive of the radical Taliban in major cities. Insurgents control all border crossings, entered Kabul and took control of the presidential palace. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he left the country “to prevent a massacre. Muhammad Naeem, an official spokesman for the Taliban’s political office,  announced that the war in Afghanistan was over.

The evacuation of foreign nationals and Afghans working for foreign missions is carried out through the only airport in Kabul, which is held by the U.S. and other NATO countries.
