Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid decided to specifically congratulate Ukraine on Independence Day and to shatter her dreams of joining the European Union.
In an interview with Evropeyskaya Pravda, she said that Brussels should be more daring on the issue of enlargement. However, in the case of Ukraine, this will not help – it needs another 20 years of work in order to meet EU standards.
“I would like the European Union to be bolder on the issue of enlargement. We need some kind of solution for the Eastern partners: either we offer them full-fledged membership, or we create a new format for three states that have ambitions (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia – editor’s note)”, Kaljulaid said.
She stressed that Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are not suitable for EU membership. In particular, she noted the problem with the courts. And this is just a drop in the ocean.
In her opinion, Ukraine and its “colleagues” in dreams of Europe need some intermediate stage, at which other EU countries should help and support them.Pushkov: Germany is tired of Merkel’s party
