Moscow does not intend to take any measures until the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan has an impact on the situation on the territory of Russia’s allies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference following talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniyam Jaishankar, TASS reports.
“As for the ongoing hostilities in the absence of a political process, what is happening on the territory of Afghanistan worries us solely from the point of view of a possible spill-over of troubles into the territory of our allies […] While this is happening on the territory of Afghanistan, we are not going to take any measures other than repeating our persistent calls for the political process, which all Afghans verbally supported, be as soon as possible”, – Lavrov said.
During a visit to Moscow, a delegation from the political office of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia) stated that the movement had no plans to attack the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
“Of course, we will not attack the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. We assure the Russian side that our policy is not to attack”, – said the spokesman for the political office, Mohammad Sohail Shahin.
