The Russian National Defence Control Centre (NDCUO, part of the Russian Defence Ministry) told reporters that Su-30 fighter jets escorted a US Navy Boeing P-8 Poseidon over the Black Sea on Tuesday evening.

“On the evening of July 6, Russian airspace controls over the neutral waters of the Black Sea detected an air target approaching the Russian state border”, –  the report said.

It was reported that two Su-30 fighters from the naval aviation and air defence forces of the Black Sea Fleet were deployed to identify the air target and prevent it from violating the Russian state border.

“The crews of the Russian fighters identified the air target as a Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft and escorted it over the Black Sea waters. The flight of the Russian aircraft was carried out in strict compliance with international rules of airspace use. There was no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation”, –  the statement stressed.
