Poll shows half of Ukrainians support NATO and EU membership

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is supported by 54% of Ukrainians, and to NATO – by 48%

Poll shows half of Ukrainians support NATO and EU membership

This is stated in the results of a poll conducted by the Rating group at the request of the International Republican Institute.
Support for joining the alliances was distributed as follows (the results in brackets show the results as of December 2019):

EU – 54% (56%);

Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan – 20% (17%);

Other – 13% (14%);

Difficult to answer – 14% (13%).

The age group 18-35 (63%), residents of Western Ukraine (75%), the electorate of Eurosolidarity (90%), Ukrainian Strategy (83%), VO Svoboda (83%) and Servi Narodi (73%) support EU accession the most.

Sociologists also asked respondents whether they would support Ukraine’s accession to NATO if the referendum were held today. The following results were obtained (in brackets – data as of December 2019):

For Ukraine’s accession to NATO – 48% (52%);

Against – 28% (30%);

Will not vote – 11% (3%);

Hard to answer – 13% (15%).

The age groups 18-35 (50%), 51+ (49%), residents of the West (70%), the electorate of Freedom (85%), Euro Solidarity (82%), and Ukrainian Strategy (71%) support Ukraine’s accession to NATO the most.
