Merkel told how negotiations with U.S. on Nord Stream-2 are going

The Donald Trump administration, defending the interests of American energy companies, opposed the construction of Nord Stream-2 and did everything to disrupt the project. Washington even threatened to impose sanctions on European companies involved in the construction, which exacerbated the already strained transatlantic relationship.

Germany hoped that Joe Biden, having occupied the White House, would abandon the destructive policies of his predecessor. Expectations were not met. The parties have not reached a consensus on the gas pipeline, German Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted.

“It is important that in the future we continue to exchange on the issues of the transatlantic partnership, which may not immediately lead to a common assessment. These now include the theme of Nord Stream-2”, – Merkel said.
