The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, in an interview with local television, demonstrated his conciliatory stance towards the main geopolitical enemy of Riyadh in the Middle East, reports EurAsia Daily.
“Iran is a neighboring country and all we strive for is a good and special relationship with Iran. We do not want the situation in Iran to be complicated. On the contrary, we want Iran to develop and push the region and the world towards prosperity”, – said the crown prince.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in early 2016 after attacks on its diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad, provoked by the execution in Saudi Arabia of the famous Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr.
Analysts at the Financial Times believe that steps towards reconciliation between the two countries are taking place against the backdrop of attempts by US President Joe Biden to restore the nuclear deal and reduce tensions in the region. Also one of the factors is the desire to end the six-year war in Yemen and “win the favor of the Biden administration, which promised to reconsider relations with the kingdom”.U.S. and Germany maintain controversy over Nord Stream-2
