Russia and the United States intend to hold a meeting on the Iranian nuclear deal, said Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna.

Russia and US plan to meet on Iranian nuclear deal

Negotiations may take place in the Austrian capital on April 29.

Ulyanov noted that the issue of the Iranian nuclear deal without the presence of Iran and the United States is difficult, but possible. He stressed that even under this condition, efficiency can be achieved.

According to him, the US believes that Iran does not plan to conduct a dialogue with them, in turn, the Iranian side realizes that it does not intend to change its position on this issue.

Earlier, the third round of negotiations started in Vienna. It began with a meeting of the Joint Commission on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, held at the level of political directors.

In May 2018, the United States withdrew from an agreement to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue and reinstated tough sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Iran, in turn, announced a phased reduction of its obligations, while the European participants considered it necessary to preserve the agreement.

In response to these unilateral steps by Washington, Tehran at the end of 2020 passed a law called “Strategic Action to Remove Sanctions”, which calls for the intensification of nuclear activities to lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

On January 5, in the context of aggravated relations with Washington, Tehran announced the abandonment of “the last key limitation in the nuclear deal” concerning the number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment.
