German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas continues to adhere to his position on the construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Deutsche Welle reports.
“This discussion has been going on for a long time. This (stopping the construction of the gas pipeline – approx.) would not necessarily lead to a change in Russia’s behavior, I think it would be the other way around. After all, Moscow is also not interested in the resumption of fighting in the east of Ukraine”, – Maas said on the air on the ARD TV channel.
The German Foreign Minister had previously actively supported the construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Maas stressed that he would not change his position on the gas pipeline due to the administration of the Democrat Joe Biden to power in the United States.
Nord Stream-2 envisages the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the coast of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. The United States actively opposes the construction of the pipeline, as it is promoting its liquefied natural gas to European countries.Ukraine to hold anti-terrorist exercises near border with the Crimea
