EU to send mediator to Georgia for talks between authorities and opposition

The President of European Council and Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell called on Georgian politicians to remember the interests of the state and engage in a constructive dialogue

According to the Left Bank newspaper, President of the European Council Charles Michel has appointed Swedish diplomat Christian Danielsson as his personal representative and tasked him to participate in the talks between the Georgian authorities and the opposition.

“Danielsson will have to work with EU Ambassador to Georgia Karl Herzl to help local political parties find a way out of the current crisis”, –  the European Council said in a statement on its website.

As a reminder the President of the European Council Charles Michel visited Tbilisi on March 1. He met with the Georgian authorities and opposition and stated that he expects Georgia to make progress in overcoming its political crisis within two weeks.
