COVID passports will appear in the EU in a few months

COVID-19 vaccination passports will not appear in the European Union for several months at the earliest ), threatening to disrupt the tourist season in 2021.

An internal community document states that the European Commission is working “on building a digital infrastructure that would facilitate the authentication of such passports”.

It notes, however, that the technical work to create such a platform could take two to four months.

According to Bloomberg, the EC is asking EU members to submit comments on the issue before the vaccination passport bill is published at the end of March.

Countries will have to develop a common approach to “proof of cure” for COVID-19, as it is not yet clear how long a person who has had the disease is immune and whether their body will be as resistant to new variants of the coronavirus.
