Germany intends to insist that US sanctions against Nord Stream 2 be lifted

This is stated in the German government’s response to a request from the German party of the Union-90″/Greens faction

“The German government has closely coordinated the issue of extraterritorial sanctions with partners in the EU and participated in both the 2020 and 2021 demarches in Washington by several EU member states against these US sanctions. Both the EU and member states and the German government will continue to seek ways of dialogue on this issue bilaterally with the new US administration as well”, –  the German government said.

“Nord Stream 2” involves the construction of two pipeline strings with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The United States is actively opposing the construction of the pipeline, as the launch of the pipeline would have a negative impact on the promotion of US liquefied natural gas.
