Russian embassy sent a note to the Latvian Foreign Ministry

A note from the Russian Embassy in Riga has been sent to the Latvian Foreign Ministry after “another act of vandalism” against the Soviet monument in Jekabpils. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

She noted that the “barbaric act” was committed on February 24. The embassy reacted and sent a note to the Latvian Foreign Ministry. As the chairman of the Jekabpils Veterans Support Society Lidiya Amosova clarified, a cannon disappeared from the pedestal of the Soviet military.

“Our embassy in Riga immediately reacted to this barbaric act, sent a protest note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, demanded that the Latvian authorities take all necessary measures to investigate this crime, attract the perpetrators, and eliminate its consequences in accordance with the Russian-Latvian intergovernmental agreement”, – said Zakharova, quoted by RIA Novosti.

The memorial to the Soviet wars in Jekabpils was opened in 1976.
