The question of the resignation of the Minister of Health of Ukraine Maxim Stepanov will be initiated in the Rada, if vaccination against coronavirus does not begin in Ukraine by the end of the week. This was stated on Wednesday by the deputy of the Servant of the People faction and the chairman of the committee for tax, customs and financial policy in the Verkhovna Rada, Daniil Getmantsev.
“The Ministry of Health did not meet the vaccination start dates that were announced [February 15]. On the other hand, we already have a statement from the Minister of Health that vaccination will begin by the end of the week. There are some technical obstacles, but one way or another, vaccination will begin, although if it does not start before the end of the week, then we will remove the minister”, – he told the journalists on the sidelines of the Ukrainian parliament.
In case of disruption of vaccination, according to the deputy, the Rada will be forced to “replace the current minister with a person who will fulfill his obligations”.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported that vaccination in the country will begin on February 15, but so far this has not happened. Later, the minister said that its start is expected before the end of this week.
The Ukrainian authorities have abandoned Russian coronavirus vaccines and are negotiating purchases with other manufacturers. At the end of last year, the authorities announced the conclusion of an agreement for the supply of more than 1.9 million doses of vaccine to the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech, the first 700 thousand doses were supposed to arrive in February, but the deliveries were supposedly postponed to April. Also expected to supply vaccines under the international COVAX mechanism under the auspices of the World Health Organization. We are talking about 117 thousand doses of Pfizer vaccine and 12 million doses of drugs from AstraZeneca and Novavax.
