Iran to begin work on a new large-scale agreement with Russia

Tehran invites Russia to brainstorm on a trade cooperation agreement that will replace the 2001 Treaty on Basic Relations and Principles of Cooperation.

The deal, which has already been renewed twice, expires in a year. According to Saeed Khatibzade, the speaker of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Tehran and Moscow are starting to discuss new documents that will deepen relations. Such work will require “brainstorming”, the diplomat emphasizes.

“Considering the development of relations between the countries in recent years, officials of the two countries emphasize the need to update the existing documents and develop new ones for the strengthening of cooperation”, – Khatibzadeh said.

“For this purpose, the development of a comprehensive document on long-term cooperation has been included in the agenda of the two countries”.
