Biden officially nominated Nuland for the post of US undersecretary of state

US President Joe Biden nominated Victoria Nuland to the post of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. This is stated in a statement by the White House.

“Nominations have been sent to the Senate: […] Victoria Nuland is being nominated for the post of Deputy Secretary of State”, – the White House said.

Before Nuland’s appointment to the office, her candidacy must be approved by the profile committee of the Senate. Soon a date will be set for a hearing, at which Nuland will answer questions from lawmakers, after which a vote will be held in the upper house to approve her as deputy secretary of state.

In the past, Victoria Nuland dealt with issues of Russia and Eurasia, was the US Ambassador to NATO. Nuland speaks Russian and is considered one of the main experts on Russia in the US Foreign Office.
