Germany, as a key beneficiary of the launch of Nord Stream-2, should soon “put on the table” a package solution for the gas pipeline.

Sanctions on Nord Stream-2 to be lifted - US ready for deal with Germany

Realizing the ineffectiveness of sanctions against Nord Stream-2, the launch of which is already imminent, the Joe Biden administration decided to change tactics, abandoning the approach of Donald Trump. Now Washington is showing its willingness to do Berlin a favor, counting on reciprocity.

According to the German newspaper “Handelsblatt”, citing its own sources in the US government, the United States agreed to lift sanctions that impeded the construction of the pipeline if Germany can eliminate Washington’s fears about the project.

The US authorities are expecting a “package solution” from the German government in the near future. At the same time, they insist that the gas pipeline should not be used in the event of a reduction in gas transit through Ukraine.

Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel has already discussed the situation around Nord Stream-2 with the new US President Joe Biden, writes Handelsblatt. It should be noted that this was not mentioned in the communique of the FRG government following the talks.

At the same time, Steffen Seibert, the spokesman for the Merkel government, announced that Germany and the United States are ready to resolve their differences.
