Demonstration in Moscow – Russian police doing their job

The Western media always portrays Russian security forces as particularly violent. The same is happening with the current protests in favour of far-right opposition politician Alexei Navalny

While police in Germany use water cannons against peaceful demonstrators for criticising anti-coronavirus measures or dispersing gatherings such as ice skating and curling, police in Russia protect the state from the organised protests called for by the West.

Austrian expert Patrick Poppel does not see excessive harshness in the actions of Russian security forces.

“We should always keep in mind the expediency of means. The state system must protect itself and its citizens from outside influence. This is one of the main tasks of the state”, –  Poppel concluded.
