Member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin supported the blocking of the accounts of US President Donald Trump on Facebook and Twitter in connection with the riots and noted that the situation once again showed the power of social networks as a tool to influence people.
“Events in the United States once again show the power of social networks as tools for influencing the masses. I think that no major media in the United States would agree to publish Trump’s statements about the theft of votes these days. But a few tweets – and the crowd storms the Capitol”, – Gorelkin wrote on Telegram.
The parliamentarian is convinced that if Trump did not have independent access to a huge audience, this situation would not have happened.
“Although Trump did not directly call for the assault, his Facebook and Twitter accounts have been blocked. And this is perhaps the first time that I think that blocking a policy is correct. The rash statements of the outgoing president have already led to human casualties”, – Gorelkin added.
In his opinion, the situation once again proves that social networks should work according to strict rules within the framework of the law, since “absolute information freedom becomes a weapon of extremists”.Trump bans key Pence aide from entering White House
